ISO 22301 Lead Implementer Certification Training

5-Day Intensive Course Overview

Course Objective
This comprehensive 5-day training program equips participants with the knowledge and practical skills to implement, manage, and audit a Business Continuity Management System (BCMS) based on ISO 22301:2019. Participants will develop the expertise required to lead BCMS implementation projects and enhance their organization’s resilience against disruptions.

Target Audience
Business continuity managers, risk managers, emergency response coordinators, IT disaster recovery professionals, compliance officers, consultants, and professionals responsible for planning, implementing, or managing business continuity within their organization.

Prerequisites
General understanding of business operations and risk management concepts is beneficial. No prior knowledge of ISO 22301 is required.

Day 1: Business Continuity Fundamentals and ISO 22301 Introduction
Morning sessions cover the fundamentals of business continuity management, key concepts including disruption, incident, and disaster definitions, the evolution and structure of ISO 22301:2019, and the business case for implementing a BCMS. Afternoon sessions explore understanding organizational context for business continuity, leadership commitment and organizational roles, establishing the BCMS scope and boundaries, and the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) cycle in business continuity. Participants engage in group discussions on real-world business disruption scenarios.

Day 2: Business Impact Analysis and Risk Assessment
The day focuses on conducting comprehensive Business Impact Analysis (BIA), identifying critical business functions and processes, determining Maximum Tolerable Period of Disruption (MTPD) and Recovery Time Objectives (RTO), and understanding Recovery Point Objectives (RPO). Sessions include performing business continuity risk assessments, identifying threats and vulnerabilities to critical operations, analyzing likelihood and impact of disruptions, and prioritizing risks for treatment. Participants work through practical BIA exercises using real business scenarios and templates.

Day 3: Business Continuity Strategies and Planning
Sessions cover developing business continuity strategies based on BIA results, selecting appropriate recovery strategies for different scenarios, establishing incident response structures and teams, and resource requirements for continuity and recovery. The day includes creating Business Continuity Plans (BCPs), developing incident response procedures, writing recovery procedures for critical functions, and establishing communication and notification protocols. Hands-on workshops guide participants through developing BC plans and exercising tabletop scenarios.

Day 4: BCMS Implementation, Testing, and Exercising
Participants learn about implementing operational controls and procedures, establishing awareness and training programs, managing BCMS documentation and records, and coordinating with external stakeholders and suppliers. The day covers designing effective BC exercises and tests, conducting tabletop exercises, functional tests, and full-scale simulations, evaluating exercise outcomes and updating plans, and managing post-incident review and lessons learned. Interactive exercises allow participants to design and conduct mock BC tests.

Day 5: Performance Evaluation, Continual Improvement, and Certification
The final day addresses monitoring and measuring BCMS performance, conducting internal BCMS audits, management review processes and decision-making, and handling nonconformities and implementing corrective actions. Sessions include understanding the certification audit process, preparing for Stage 1 and Stage 2 audits, maintaining and recertifying the BCMS, and integrating BCMS with other management systems like ISO 27001 and ISO 9001. The afternoon features a comprehensive course review, practice examination questions, and the final certification examination.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, participants will be able to explain the principles and requirements of ISO 22301:2019, conduct business impact analyses and risk assessments, develop comprehensive business continuity strategies and plans, design and facilitate BC exercises and tests, implement and maintain an effective BCMS, prepare organizations for certification audits, and apply continual improvement to enhance organizational resilience.

Certification
Participants who successfully pass the final examination will receive an ISO 22301 Lead Implementer certificate, demonstrating their competence in implementing and managing a BCMS according to international best practices.

Course Materials
All participants receive a comprehensive training manual with case studies, ISO 22301:2019 standard reference guide, practical templates including BIA and risk assessment tools, sample business continuity plans and procedures, exercise and test scenario materials, and access to online resources and continuing professional development materials.

Training Methodology
The course combines lectures and presentations, interactive group discussions and workshops, practical exercises and case studies, tabletop exercises and simulations, and knowledge checks and assessments throughout the program.
